Rathgar Refurbishment

'We need more space!' is up there in the top ten wishlists for refurbishments . This house was unloved and empty when the clients bought it so the brief extended the house in each direction. The design is based around 3 clad boxes. The first is the entrance box which toes the old and new extension . Th ethe rear kitchen dining extesion, a large cedar clad overhang shades the kitchen form summer sun and acts as a transition zone to the garden. The kast is the side rear extension which has a timber clad window seat for the playroom facing South. A central skylight illumnites theway to the upper floors.  A simple palatte of materials leaves the owners to put their own stamp on their house. Extensive insulation, airtightness brought the house form a G to a B1 using gas fired heating with the option to convert to heat pump and PV incorporated.
